Virtual Thermometer
Program Description
Virtual Thermometer v1.0 is a Drill and Practice program designed to give the fledgling health care student practice with reading fahrenheit thermometers.
This program is designed to be one of several modules of a Virtual Vital
Signs series. This fully integrated package is not yet ready for release.
Virtual Thermometer v1.0 takes advantage of the Microsoft(c) MS Agents. To view
animation mode, the host computer must contain at least one Microsoft
agent. For speech, the host computer must have at least one speech engine
installed. For more information about the MS Agents and Text to Speech,
visit the
Microsoft(c)
MS Agent Site and the
Microsoft(c) MS Agent Character Files and Text to Speech Files Download Site.
The program also requires comalspeech.dll written by
John White. This DLL allows Liberty BASIC to communicate with the Microsoft
(c) MS Agents.
Virtual Thermometer v1.0 runs equally well in non-animated mode. The non-animated
mode is the default mode when no MS Agent is found on the host computer. The user
may also choose to select non-animated mode as a menu option.
Planned future enhancements to Virtual Thermometer v1.0 include
- select Fahrenheit or Celsius readings
- integration within a total virtual vital signs package
- recordkeeping for correct answers
The program creates random thermometer readings, awaits user input of
readings, then evaluates and offers correct or incorrect responses.
